偶然在 Threads 看到這條阿西莫夫的引語：「無知作為一種邪教，已經存在美國甚久。透過政治與文化生活的經緯，交織出一股反智的張力。『我的無知就跟你的知識一樣好』，他們誤以為民主就是這個意思。」

這讀來其實挺有氣勢，不過反智的張力是什麼？找了原文來看（《Newsweek》一九八零年一月廿一日號）：There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

Strain 在這裏不是張力，而是傾向。「反智傾向一直遍佈於我們的政治與文化生活。」
