音乐家 Stephan Micus 的专辑《Implosions》里有这样一段话：

The music on this album is not Japanese, Indian, Afghani, not Bavarian—it is not traditional music—call it what you will. There has been sincere desire to understand the essence of these cultures.

两句简单、日常的英文，原本理应用简单、日常的中文译出。我亦略知 Micus 绝非爱用大言壮语之徒。曾以半文白体翻译乔布斯之讲演片段，褒贬不一，自是意料之中。但我无论如何都不接受用今日中国之简单日常中文译 Micus 此语。尤其「There has been sincere desire to understand the essence of these cultures」一句，若偷懒直译为「我试图诚心理解以上文化之精髓」云云，不啻于侮辱 Micus。皆因如今文艺界各路「富贵家儿与庸奴钝汉」均乐于开口真心诚意、闭口文化精华，又怎知在 Micus 氏写下这话的一九七七年欧洲，尝试理解异种音乐文化精髓是如何困难与孤独。既然当下语言不可用，唯有用另一个时空的语言，尝试召出一九七七年这段简单日常英文的魂魄，试译如下：

此辑之乐，非传统音乐也。非日本、非印度、非阿富汗、亦非巴伐利亚。欲正名者尽可随意呼之。凡此诸族之文化精髓，吾皆诚心求索。
